"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f*cking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage payments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of f*cking fabrics.
Choose DIY and wondering who the f*ck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows stuffing f*cking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home... nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish f*cked up brats that you've spawned to replace yourself.
Choose your future. Choose life. But, why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose something else. And the reasons... there are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"
This monologue is from the opening scene of Trainspotting. And it helps to explain junkie thoughts well. Porn impacts the brain differently to heroin, but the concept remains the same. As bad as conventional living and the average life may be nowadays, as mundane, tedious and addicted the rest of society may be - there will never be a good reason to watch porn. You don't need a reason. When you are addicted to porn, your brain is involved in a psychological / emotional dependency on a mind / mood altering experience. And the only way to change the brain is through facing urges and withdrawal head on. Most importantly, dealing with the addicted part of the mind correctly. One aspect of dealing with the addicted part of the mind is identifying and correcting what we call junkie thoughts. These are any excuses, rationalisations, and justifications to engage in a compulsive behaviour. Who needs reasons, when you've got porn?
P.S. Absolutely f*ck choosing a boring, pointless life. We're all going to die one day. Let's choose for ourselves how we live instead of consenting to helplessness. Truly taking control of our lives starts with taking control of our compulsive desires. When we become a master of doing so, we can become a master of so much more than we thought possible.
