Activating the Rational Part of The Mind

Exposure to junkie thinking is all around us. Things like "feed the urge" is plastered over buses to advertise pizzas.

Media outlets have extreme clickbait headlines to try and get our attention.

Big companies want us to buy their pointless products.

And nowadays, some women will do anything to try and get you to click the link in their bio.

Last week, I was walking along the canal with my partner and we spotted a very rare thing. Sadly, it was not a kingfisher or a heron. Instead, it was a woman with her bare feet spread into the air on a wooden bench posing for her friend to take a photo of her. We nodded in agreement that it was an awful case of OnlyFans going on here.

This area we live in now (Deansgate, Manchester) is plagued with OnlyFans women.

But, this is not a problem!

With my porn addiction past, I could let the addicted part of the mind (APOTM) get me into feelings of helplessness. This is what we see across most addiction recovery communities nowadays. People feeling like the outside world is out to get them. Like they are hopeless in the face of the addiction epidemic. Too much marketing everywhere. Too much noise. An oversexualised society. But, no. This line of thinking won't actually get us anywhere helpful.

The rational part of our mind resides in all of us. And if we lead with the rational part of the mind, we can live our life in a way where we make good rational choices, in spite of the chaos surrounding us. If I ever have a compulsive desire to engage in a compulsive behaviour, I choose to use a 5-Fact script to activate the rational part of my mind. This is how I stay in control amongst the mayhem. This is how I continue to be focused, connected to my partner, and productive.

This is how I get to experience peace of mind. People want your attention.

But, you don't have to succumb to helplessness and slump into a pit of addiction, like the many around you. With a tool to put the rational part of your mind in charge at all times, you can stand up, hold your head high, and enjoy making good choices, moment by moment.

How we respond to the external world is nowhere near as important as how we respond to our own mind. The ability to stay rational exists within us, not outside ourselves.
