This is not who you are

When you use the Beyond Compulsion method to live your life free of engaging in compulsivity, you start to think about things very differently. You understand that the addicted part of the mind (APOTM) uses self-deprecation as a tactic to try and get you to engage in your compulsive behaviour.

"This is just who you are" whispers the APOTM as it tries to get you to take another look.

On yesterday's weekly check-in, one of our clients mentioned how his perspective on those choosing to engage in compulsive behaviours has now changed.

"I now see other people living in compulsivity or in irrational ways and have the self awareness now to be able to notice that, before id just be like oh that's just how they are or what not whereas now I see it for what is is".

What this client means by this is that he no longer believes people are fixed to their current way of living. He no longer sees these behaviours as "bad habits" that people just "fall" into. Instead, just like me, he gets that people wire their neural pathways to want to engage in certain behaviours.

Through repetition over years of thinking and acting in the same ways, people develop strong compulsive desires.

And until these neural pathways are changed by connecting to this desire and thinking it through rationally, the default mode of being inevitably ensues. You are not your porn addiction. This is a temporary wiring that can be changed if you choose to do the relevant work, embrace temporary discomfort and change your neural pathways.
