Many guys are struggling.
They are trying their best to quit porn, but the methods they are using are failing them.
They are relapsing and then trying again. They are doing their best to manage and control an addiction, using streaks, but eventually always relapse.
I was one of these guys for 9 years. One guy I spoke to yesterday said that at one point he'd even white-knuckled his way through over a year without porn.
He said it was agony.
He eventually relapsed and the cycle of keeping streaks and managing his addiction continued for many more years. To quit porn correctly, it is key to understand the addicted part of the mind (APOTM) and have a tool to deal with every urge in a way that actually changes the neural pathways correctly.
Urge surfing, distraction techniques or substitution strategies are ways of temporarily managing an addiction.
But, the urges come back and overall this approach doesn't feel great at all.
What we do is learn to directly deal with urges in a way that actually counters the thought patterns that have been keeping people trapped.
We choose to experience the temporary discomfort of an urge from a place of proactive empowerment, instead of reactivity, thinking the choice all the way through with a script. This shift enables people to actually feel good about quitting porn because they realise they always have a choice and know exactly what to do at all times. Most people are not ready to quit porn correctly as they haven't been taught how.
The start of the rewiring process is understanding deprivation thinking and getting connected to compulsive desire. This is done via the first 2 facts of the 5-fact script.
These 2 facts alone enable people to start feel good about rewiring, instead of constantly feeling agitated, stressed, and frustrated.
If you'd like to learn more about how we believe training to quit porn correctly, like training for a marathon, is a more effective approach than keeping streaks, relapsing, and then trying to just get back up and go again - you can watch my YouTube video on this topic.
