Years ago I read Your Brain on Porn for the first time. It was comforting to know that I was not alone.
Given the popularity of this book, I naively followed what I read and acted upon the instructions provided. Unfortunately, I continued to relapse and started to question myself. I would think "shit what is wrong with me? Why can't I stop watching porn?". I felt like I was doing everything right, but no matter how hard I tried - I felt like I couldn't stop watching porn. Recently I reread the book and with the knowledge I now possess, I am not one bit surprised I continued to relapse. Any method that fails in helping me changing the way they think is a recipe for disaster. I continued to watch porn for so many years because no one taught me how to think in a rational way in the moments of compulsive desire.
That was all I needed to succeed. Everything else was just avoiding the real problem.
