You have probably heard of unresolved traumas. But, have you ever heard of unresolved desires? Probably not as I just made this term up this morning. I think this idea of "unresolved desires" sums up what Mari has taught me quite well - compulsive desires refuse to be ignored. The idea is that due to neural pathways being wired a particular way, the desire will keep on returning until it is dealt with directly. With this in mind, we can see the clear ineffectiveness of most methods. For example, most people recommend dealing with compulsive desires for porn with one of the below tactics: Meditation
Gym
Self-improvement
Reading
Journaling
Connection with other people
Keeping a streak
Accountability
Dealing with trauma
Taking a walk
Distracting yourself
Substituting porn for something more healthy
The list goes on and on. But, when you know that compulsive desires refuse to be ignored, you know the only way to change addicted neural pathways is by dealing with the desires head on.
A lot of people have unresolved desires. Our approach is focused on acknowledging that we do have these desires, and there is nothing wrong with us, and that we can change how we think about the desire to change how we feel and therefore change how we act.
Through repetition, this enables us to take control and successfully change our neural pathways. If you want to deal with your desires directly and change your neural pathways, whilst feeling good about doing so, we are here to help.
