How our clients eliminate fear of relapse

Yesterday I was on a phone call with someone interested in joining the Beyond Compulsion Academy. He seemed very keen on joining the program and working with us, but there was fear that joining BCA wouldn't help him solve this problem. "What if I join and it doesn't work? What if I still relapse?" Great questions. I would be thinking the exact same. No one wants to compound their feelings of failure and shame further by joining a program and still continuing to relapse. Struggling with porn addiction is bad enough without losing money on recovery programs. I get it.
But, what is interesting about these questions is that once someone is taught the Beyond Compulsion method - they no longer have to fear relapsing anymore.
Just as one of our clients shared this week Any thought, desire, or feeling related to my compulsive behavior is literally “the APOTM wanting to engage RIGHT NOW”. This is super important to remember because one of the tactics of the APOTM is future thinking. But that is literally an opportunity in the very moment to rewire the neural pathways. I only have power in this present moment, no power on the past or future… just right now.

The way our clients are able to eliminate any fear of relapse is through understanding that the fear is actually an opportunity to change their neural pathways right now. And, through use of the script, they are able to get themselves back into the present moment which is where they have complete control of their choices. Future thinking is part of being in a porn addiction. It is natural. It is expected. Everyone has it. And the good news is, those neural pathways can be rewired too so you can get to a place of complete stability, self-trust, and self-assurance. With the right training and tools, you can get to a position where you KNOW you are going to be able to stop your porn use moment by moment, and you can feel good about doing so!
