Actually feel in control

So much advice nowadays is focused on blockers, removing triggers, and accountability buddies. The principles underlying such approaches are based in helplessness. The idea is "you can't be in control of yourself". It is such a defeatist mentality and it makes me feel a bit sick just thinking of the guys out there running coaching programs that reinforce this ideology further. The truth is that yes, in addiction, you do feel out of control and you do get out of control. But, with the right education on addiction and tool to deal with compulsive desires, you can literally be in control of yourself at all times, without any restrictions at all. Freedom doesn't take place externally, but in our own mind. And the benefits of learning how to master your own mind are priceless. Success to me isn't about going on a temporary streak of days without porn. Success to me is being able to talk openly and confidently about this problem with complete self-trust, and from a place of feeling in control of yourself. On Monday, we recorded a podcast with one of our clients - Joe. Worth a listen to learn more about how, like me, he now understands how to deal with compulsive desires and can talk about this problem openly, with complete trust in himself.
