99% of people take a passive approaches towards quitting porn. For 9 years, I waited for the number of days without porn to go up and up. And then I always eventually relapsed.
Nowadays, my approach is very proactive.
And I believe that to overcome this problem correctly, and feel good about doing so - a proactive approach is absolutely necessary.
Approach 1 (what 99% of people do)
Counts days
Avoids triggers
Worries about urges
Uses distractions
Measures progress using a streak counter
Thinks they will get out of control if they have an urge
Approach 2 (the Beyond Compulsion way)
Understands the addictive part of the mind inside and out
Faces desires directly and uses a 5-fact script to rewire the brain
Proactively chooses to change any junkie thinking for long-term freedom
Enjoys the benefits of actively choosing to change neural pathways
Knows real progress is made through dealing with the desire directly
Experiences freedom from this problem as they always know exactly what to do
On Saturday, I asked a client how he was doing and received a great reply. In the past this client had always taken approach number 1, the conventional approach. And he had often worried about hangovers and getting out of control. This time things were different. This time he trusted himself.

Freedom is not found in passively counting days, running away from reality. Instead, it is found through mastering urges correctly and knowing you are always the one in control.
